Diabetes hits the kidneys!

Faculty Member of Akdeniz University Nephrology Department and President of Turkish Nephrology Association; Dr. Gültekin Süleymanlar shared the relationship between diabetes and kidneys with the public at the 50th National Diabetes Congress. Emphasizing that 1 of his 3 diabetes patients in the world got his disease, Süleymanlar said, `` unfortunately, dialysis can be detected because the page cannot be diagnosed at an early stage.

Prof. Suleyman who stated that kidney disease triggers mostly cardiovascular disease so that heart and kidney protection is the biggest target, said: “While trying to solve kidney problems of diabetes patients, on the other hand it is aimed that decreasing of cardiovascular diseases risks. Quitting smoking, blood pressure control, monitoring diabetes, lipid control (cholesterol is within acceptable values.), weight control, exercise for between 30 minutes and 1 hour a day are most important criteria in protection of kidney and blood pressure. Restriction of salt in diabetes patients is the most important criteria in control of kidney and blood pressure. Daily salt consumption amount per person is 5 – 6 grams. Through recent researches, this ratio is measured in Turkey as 14 – 15 gram per person and as it seen it is way more than it should be.
